  Ludlow's Patent Hydrant
Ludlow's Patent Hydrant is a one piece barrel design. "PAT SEPT.1874" is cast on top of the bonnet of some of the these hydrants. A full description of the Patent hydrant appears in the 1878 Ludlow Valve and Hydrant Brochure.

The hydrants pictured below all appear to be of the same barrel size; however, several sizes were listed as being available in the 1878 Ludlow Hydrant Price List. Note: A flush type hydrant -- made to order -- was offered, which would have been made prior to and therefore different from the slide gate model listed below.

  List 78 Flush Hydrant
  • It appears that Ludlow modified foundry patterns of a standard (above ground) List 75 model hydrant to produce this unusual flush style hydrant.
  • A 1921 Ludlow catalog has the 3 sizes listed below which are identical to the first three List 75 sizes.
