SOCIETE METALLURGIQUE HAUT MARNAISE (SMHM)
Joinville - Haute-Marne, France

Nothing is known about the foundry that produced this hydrant. This model is similar to other French designs originating in the mid to late 1800s. These early public water hydrants or bornes fontaines frequently had a fire hose outlet making them true fire hydrants. On the hydrant shown on this page, an outlet and valve is hidden behind a locking hinged access door; the valve stem and hose outlet are inside the hydrant.
