Part 2

  300 & 500 models
The 300 model and very similar 500 model were each made in two V.O. sizes; 4½" and 5¼". The breakaway traffic feature is achieved by virtue of a breakable cast lug on each bolt that draws up against a snap ring in the top of the lower barrel; and bottoms against the bottom of the upper barrel.
  • These models have only the "Dresser" name cast onto the upper barrel; with no mention of M&H.
  • The V.O. size and model number are cast onto the barrel.
  • 202163 is also cast onto the barrel; this refers to a (design) patent. Another patent, 3,505,027 was taken out for this hydrant design but is not referenced on the hydrant itself.

This is the Traffic 300 model.

      Tropical Hydrant - Panama Canal Hydrant - ca. 1958 - ?
This hydrant is for warm climates and is sometimes called a wet riser type hydrant. On M&H drawings dated November 26, 1958, it is called a Tropical Hydrant on one drawing, and Panama Canal Hydrant on another. Both examples below are from Panama.
  • Note the unusual chain rings on the caps.
  • Note the unusual operating nut assembly.
