"Centurion" & "Super Centurion" (1975 - present)

These hydrants have the rounded bonnet like the 107 model. With this model Mueller continued to change the look of the operating nut weather cap. And then in 1988 the weather cap was eliminated which made this model look similar to the original Standard model. The upper barrel flange has a skirt that overhangs the lower barrel flange; same as the Improved and 107 models. This is a current model for Mueller Co. They are made in 4½" and 5¼" V.O. sizes.

"Mueller/Albertville, Ala.", year of manufacture, and V.O. size are cast on the upper barrel.

The "Centurion" model designation refers to 1975 - 1987 manufacture with the weather cap. These have either "S.R." or "A.S.R." cast on the top of the bonnet rim. From 1979 - 1988 a version was made with the 2 hose nozzles externally gated.

The "Super Centurion" model designation refers to the current hydrant without a weather cap. The Super Centurion 250 designates a 3-way, 250 psi rated hydrant (1997 - present) and the Super Centurion 200 designates 2-way and 1-way versions, 200 psi rated (1988 - present). These have "B.S.R." cast on the top of the bonnet rim. Since 1989 a version has been made with the 2 hose nozzles externally gated; but with a weather cap.

The "Centurion Spin-In" model (1980 - 1987) and "Super Centurion 200 Spin-In" model (1988 - present) designations refers to models made to 'spin-in' to an older R.D. Wood shoe. These are made in a 3-way nozzle configuration only.

Image # 0128 below is of a Centurion with a "107" style weather cap. This was a common option in areas that used the 107 model. This creates what appears to be a hybrid hydrant.

This first group is the first Centurions with the weather cap and pointed bonnet (like Improved model) marked "S.R.", made only in 1975 & 1976:

In the 1960s and 1970s a number of manufacturers designed "contemporary style" hydrants; as an alternative to the traditional looking hydrants. Below are Mueller's two contemporary models.

"Modern Improved" (1969 - 1980)

This model was made in 4½" (2-way and 3-way) and 5¼" (3-way only) V.O. sizes.

"Modern Centurion" (1979 - present)

The Modern Centurion is/was made only in a 5¼" V.O. size; in 2-way (2 hose nozzles) and 3-way (2 hose nozzles and 1 pumper nozzle) versions.

Flush Type (1953-present)

Flush type hydrants are installed just below ground, with an iron access cover which is flush with the ground. In North America, these hydrants are uncommon. They are used in special situations such as airfields, where an above ground hydrant could be a hazard, or places where the location is too narrow to otherwise permit a standard hydrant, such as the walkway under a bridge, etc. The historic preservation office of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, is specifying flush type hydrants to maintain historical accuracy, as well as preserve aesthetics, on the narrow streets in the historic part of that city.

Mueller Flush Type Hydrants:

Are available in either a 2-way or 3-way (with pumper nozzle).

Were built in Chattanooga (1953 - 1972).

Have been built in Albertville, Alabama since 1973.

Have been available in these valve opening sizes:

4-1/4" (discontinued 1987)

5-1/4" (began production in 1973)
