Marshall spec hydrants - Marshall, Michigan

The dry hydrant concept was explored in Marshall, Michigan early on. The city installed cast iron dry hydrants for drafting from wells to coincide with the purchase of their 1871 Amoskeag Steamer.

Each hydrant has the date cast on the top along with the name of the property owner where the well was driven. Pictured is the hydrant from the Magee well. It is assumed that the hydrants were cast locally. Altogether there were 26 installed in the city.
