K.P. Iron Foundry - Fresno, CA

K.P. Iron Foundry is a division of Kearney Metals of Fresno, California. They produced these Fresno spec hydrants in the 1970s exclusively for the city of Fresno. There is no mainvalve, instead a butterfly valve is buried near the hydrant with an operating nut sunk into the pavement. This type hydrant has created problems for Fresno, since the butterfly valves will start to leak over time. Simple hydrants such as these, but using gate valves, have long been the standard in Hong Kong, Thailand, Brazil, etc.
