Maschinen und Armaturenfabrik vormals H. Breuer - Hoechst am Main - Germany Founded as H. Breuer and Co. in 1876 by Hermann Josef Breuer as a pipe foundry, by 1896 the company had purchased Deutsche Wasserwerksgesellschaft (waterworks manufacturing), Bronzeguß AG (bronze casting) and Gußapparate-AG (casting apparatus), emerging as Breuerwerk, the largest factory complex in Höchst am Main. At the peak of production the company had about 1000 workers at their engine works and foundry, producing cast iron pipe, gate valves, fire hydrants, water cranes for locomotives, equipment for the chemical and coke industries, as well as many other products. Identifying Characteristics: Similar to many German turn of the century hydrants. This style seems to have been made to a specification adopted by most makers. |
