Eddy Valve Co. - Waterford, NY
Part 3 - 2 pc. tall upper barrel models

Clow Valve Corp - Oskaloosa, IA
Part 1 - Tall Clow/Eddy hydrants

James B. Clow and Sons Company started out in 1878. They added fire hydrants to their line of foundry related products in 1890 when they began distributing fire hydrants made by Eddy Valve Co. which was located in Waterford, NY. During the 1940's Clow purchased Eddy Valve Co. and also Iowa Valve Co.. The Iowa hydrant continued to be manufactured, but under the Eddy Iowa name.

In 1972, Clow also acquired Rich Manufacturing Company located in Corona, California, this company manufactured wet barrel hydrants. In 1985, McWane, Inc. acquired Clow. In 1996 Clow acquired another fire hydrant company, the Waterworks division of Long Beach Iron Works.

This page consists of what we call "tall Clow/Eddy" hydrants. It is a dual purpose page in that it serves as Part 3 of Eddy Valve Co. and Part 1 of Clow Corp. All the hydrants on this page are tall (conventional height) hydrants with either Eddy Valve Co. or Eddy Valve Div./James B. Clow embossed on the snowflake logo ... and this page is divided into sections based on variations of this embossing. The next page, Part 2, contains all other (non snowflake logo, non-"Eddy Valve" embossed) Clow dry barrel models as well as their wet barrel models.

Logo: 6 pt. "Eddy Valve Co. Waterford, NY"
These hydrant(s) were apparently made prior to Clow ownership of Eddy Valve Co. as evidenced by the barrel logo. They are undated as is typical of Eddy Valve Co. hydrants.
